What is yoga?

Yoga is a holistic practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and ethical principles to promote overall well-being and inner peace.

Can yoga help my mental health?

Yoga can help to deal with stress, reduce anxiety and improve mood, and develop more acceptance of the body. Through yoga practices such as breathwork and meditation we can learn techniques to cope more effectively with the challenges and pressures of life.

What are the physical health benefits of yoga?

Yoga can improve flexibility, strength, balance, reduce stress, promote relaxation, enhance mental focus, and contribute to better cardiovascular and respiratory health. Yoga can also reduce stress and fatigue.

Can I practice yoga if I have an injury or medical condition?

It is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before practicing yoga with any injury or medical condition. Modified poses or alternatives may be suggested.

Why do I need to complete a health form?

To provide information about your current health and any injuries or medical conditions, to make sure that my teaching is safe and effective for each person.

What should I bring?

Please bring a yoga mat (or let me know if you'd like to borrow one for your first class) and a blanket. You may also like to bring some water. Other equipment such as straps, blocks and bricks will be provided as necessary (although if you have your own you are welcome to bring these along).

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, clothing that allows you to move freely, such as leggings or tracksuit bottoms and a T shirt. You may also need extra layers to make sure you stay warm in the relaxation. Yoga is normally practised with bare feet, or wearing anti-slip or yoga socks.

What is chair yoga?

A style of yoga using a chair to sit on or to support balance. This style is more accessible for people who may find traditional mat-based yoga difficult, such as those with reduced mobility, age-related physical limitations or many medical needs, such as heart conditions, arthritis and osteoporosis.
